Alberto Ribes Navarro

Alberto Ribes Navarro PhD is Graduated in Biotechnology from University of Lleida (2009-2014). He did his Bachelor Dissertation at the KU Leuven (Belgium) studying lipid metabolism in fish. Afterwards, he did his MSc in Molecular Biotechnology in University of Barcelona where he worked on the cloning of the glutaminase gene of Gilthead Seabream and analysed its mRNA expression depending on the diet given. More recently, he just finished his PhD Thesis (2024) focused on the molecular and functional characterisation of key genes for the biosynthesis de novo of long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids in gammarids. He is mainly focused on molecular tools for gene characterisation, modulation of their expression and editing. He has applied several of these techniques in different disciplines that goes from biomedicine to agricultural science. Currently, he is working on modulating C18 fatty acid biosynthesis in tomato by viral induced gene editing (VIGE); triying to develop new molecular tools and approaches to increase crop resistance towards several conditions caused by global warming
