General

CG1 (RD 1393). Acquisition of Knowledge
That students have demonstrated knowledge in the various fields of study that make up the curriculum of the Bachelor of Medicine program.
CG2 (RD 1393). Application of knowledge
Students should be able to apply their knowledge to their work or profession in a professional manner and possess the skills typically demonstrated through the development and defense of arguments and the resolution of problems within the fields of knowledge that make up the curriculum of the Bachelor of Medicine program.
CG3 (RD 1393). Gather and interpret relevant data to form judgments
Students should be able to gather and interpret relevant data to form judgments that include reflection on social, scientific, or ethical issues.
CG4 (RD 1393) Communication
Students should be able to convey information, ideas, problems, and solutions to both specialized and non-specialized audiences.
CG5 (RD 1393) Independent Learning
Students should have developed the learning skills necessary to pursue further studies with a high degree of independence

Specific

The National Conference of Deans of Spanish Faculties of Medicine, based on the new European convergence regulations (European Directive 2021 (1). 12 2004,13781/2/04 REV 2, dated December 21, 2004), and ORDER ECI/332/2008, of February 13, which establishes the requirements for the verification of official university degrees that qualify for the medical profession, has proposed the specific competencies to be acquired at the end of the medical training. These are classified as:

A) Professional values, attitudes, and ethical behavior:

Recognize the essential elements of the medical profession, including ethical principles, legal responsibilities, and patient-centered practice.
Understand the importance of these principles for the benefit of patients, society, and the profession, with particular attention to professional confidentiality.
Know how to apply the principle of social justice to professional practice and to understand the ethical implications of health in a changing global context.
Develop professional practice with respect for patient autonomy, beliefs, and culture.
Recognize one’s own limitations and the need to maintain and update one’s professional competence, placing special emphasis on self-directed learning of new knowledge and techniques and on a commitment to quality.
Develop professional practice with respect for other healthcare professionals, while acquiring teamwork skills.

B) Scientific Foundations of Medicine:

Understand and recognize the normal structure and function of the human body at the molecular, cellular, tissue, organ, and systems levels, across the different stages of life and in both sexes.
Recognize the foundations of normal human behavior and its alterations.
Understand and recognize the effects, mechanisms, and manifestations of the disease on the structure and function of the human body.
Understand and recognize causative agents and risk factors that determine health status and disease development.
Understand and recognize the effects of growth, development, and aging on the individual and their social environment.
Understand the foundations of action, indications, and efficacy of therapeutic interventions based on the best available scientific evidence.

C) Clinical skills:

Obtain and compile a medical history that includes all relevant information.
Perform a physical examination and a mental assessment.
Be capable of making an initial diagnostic judgment and establishing a reasoned diagnostic strategy.
Recognize and address situations that pose an immediate threat to life and those that require immediate attention.
Establish the diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment, applying principles based on the best available information and in a safe clinical setting.
Identify the most appropriate treatment for the most common acute and chronic conditions, as well as for patients in the terminal stage.
Identify and recommend appropriate preventive measures for each clinical situation.
Gain appropriate clinical experience in hospitals, health centers, or other healthcare facilities under supervision, as well as basic knowledge of patient-centered clinical management and the appropriate use of tests, medications, and other healthcare resources.

D) Communication skills:

Listen carefully, gather and summarize relevant information about the patient’s symptoms, and understand the content of this information.
Write medical records and other medical documents in a way that is understandable to third parties.
Communicate effectively and clearly, both verbally and in writing, with patients, family members, the media, and other professionals.
Establish effective interpersonal communication skills that enable one to interact efficiently and empathetically with patients, family members, the media, and other professionals.

E) Public health and health systems:

Recognize the determinants of health in the population, including genetic factors as well as those related to gender, lifestyle, demographics, the environment, society, the economy, psychology, and culture.
To play their part in efforts to prevent and protect against diseases, injuries, or accidents, and to maintain and promote health, both at the individual and community levels.
Recognize their role in multidisciplinary teams, taking the lead when appropriate, both in the delivery of health care and in health promotion interventions.
Collect and use epidemiological data and assess trends and risks to inform health-related decision-making.
Understand national and international health organizations, as well as the contexts and determinants of different health systems.
Basic knowledge of the National Health System and health legislation.

F) Information Management:

Understand, critically evaluate, and know how to use clinical and biomedical information sources to obtain, organize, interpret, and communicate scientific and health-related information.
Know how to use information and communication technologies in clinical, therapeutic, preventive, and research activities.
Maintain and use patient records for subsequent analysis, while ensuring the confidentiality of the data.

G) Critical analysis and research:

To adopt, in one’s professional practice, a critical and creative perspective, characterized by constructive skepticism and a focus on research.
Understand the importance and limitations of scientific thinking in the study, prevention, and management of diseases.
Be able to formulate hypotheses, gather information, and critically evaluate it to solve problems, following the scientific method.
Acquire the basic training needed for research work.
